Our Story

How it all started...

In January of 1890 under the leadership of Rev. G. Potratz, who was pastor and missionary from Hillsboro, North Dakota, Trinity was organized with twenty voting members.  Services were conducted in the homes, especially in the home of H.O. Krabbenhoft.  The congregation adopted the name "Die Kathariengemeinde" in honor of the mother of H. O Krabbenhoft, who name was Katharina.  In the year 1894, the name was changed to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.

In 1901 three acres of land was given by Mr. and Mrs. William Paasch where they built the church and cemetery was laid out.   All the pastors of the church taught school.  Their teaching was to a great degree to the children being prepared for confirmation.  In 1912, Mr. J. Toenjes was hired to teach it's Christian day-school in Baker while the pastor taught the school in Sabin.  In 1916, Mr. Toenjes came and taught in Sabin and the Baker school was closed.  The school stayed open until 1938 when it closed their doors due to not having a teacher.

In 1990, the church moved from it's site out in the country due to flooding of the Buffalo River to it's current site in the town of Sabin.  It purchased the site of the old school in Sabin and built it's current site.  On December 31st 1990 it had it's closing worship at the old site in the morning and then it's dedication of the new church that afternoon.
